**** Wow! This was quite a book. I'm not sure that I understand half of what it was trying to do, but I think a quick review of mythology from around the world would help. Just like his first novel, Neverwhere, I couldn't put this book down. If you like fantasy with a dark side, this book is for you.

Both those books were awesome! American Gods was the first Gaiman I'd ever read and it left me with my jaw hanging on the ground :)

Have you watched the DVD of neverwhere? I just bought it at Christmas, and it's fascinating. I didn't know, but apparently it was written as the mini-series first, and then adapted into the novel. So by watching the show, you're actually seeing Neil Gaiman and the director's vision of the story... ie, not some book bastardized into movie form. It's from the BBC and available in the US as an A&E DVD box set.
