Reading Chapter Books

Maddie_reading

Now that Maddie is beyond the "begin to read books" I have started looking into chapter books. There are quite a few out there and at first she gravitated to the typical kid favorite characters -- Adventures in Bikini Bottom (Spongebob Squarepants) -- but I wanted to find a series that she could get excited about.

The answer just may be the Magic Tree House Series. I bought her the Magic Tree House Boxed Set - Books 1-4 for her Birthday and she has been reading a chapter every day out loud during school time. She loves the books and flew through the first one! She also asked for one of the study guides (Mummies & Pyramids which goes with book #3) and we are going to the library to get more.

If you are looking for a fun, exciting series that will get your child interested in reading and teach them something at the same time -- check it out!

Have you tried the original AA Milne Winnie the Pooh books? I remember starting with those early myself... with a little help from my mom.

My daughter loved the Babysitters Little sister books. There are a bunch of them.

Superboy is completely in love with the Junie B. Jones series. Also he read all of the Frankie K. Stein. He reads a lot so I can give you some other good ones too. And huzzah on the knitting front!

oooh I recognize that book! Junie B Jones And Judy Moody are hits here with my girl!
Go Maddie!

My 6yo daughter LOVES the magic tree house books. We read many of them to her last year, and now she is reading them herself (some of the time)--so exciting!

I love this series. When I was a classroom teacher, these were often the first books many students learned to love and read for fun. Even now, my son asks for the new ones when they come out.

Rainbow Magic Fairies! We (I) didn't like Junie B because she was just rude imo .... but we got hooked on Rainbow Magic Fairies by Daisy Meadow - and then went on to the weather fairies series....
