Feelin' Better and the Cursed Socks
It's been a rough couple of days. Yesterday I didn't get out of bed until around dinner time. I'm feeling so much better today though. I even felt well enough to knit and you won't believe what I finished. . . the cursed socks!

After almost a year (over a year if you count the first two attempts to start them) they are finally done! Why did these take me a year? I really don't know. I think that I should have probably used size US2's with the Lorna's. And I know that the ribbing on the top slowed me down. Then there was the broken needle -- ugh. However I have to say that Brittany is true to their word. I emailed them to tell them that I broke one of my double points and they sent me 3 (yes 3!) replacements.
Here are the socks on Pete, and that's Mud (aka the old lady) off to the right. I'm sure you could tell from these pictures that there is some handpainted weirdness going on here. They are the same colorway and from the same dyelot, but there is something not quite right. Perhaps it has something to do with my tension. Or maybe it has to do with where I started in the skein. However, there is no denying that there is a lot more of the light blue color in the first sock that I knit. I don't mind and Pete doesn't mind, so it's not a problem, it's just strange.
Congratulations on finishing your socks. I can't imagine your tension changed that much...but they look great--very manly. :)

Ah, the magic of sock yarn. Still, I bet they are warm and wonderful and that Pete will enjoy them no matter what.
Glad to hear that you're feeling better!

Congratulations on finishing your socks! I have an unfinished project in my closet from about four years ago that your story just reminded me of...I wonder if I'll ever finish it.

Nice looking socks! I'm curious: what size needles did you use on these socks? I've been using a 1-1/2 (2.5 mm) needle with Lorna's sock (gauge = 9/in) and am also getting some weirdness with the patterning. I made a pair with the Liberty, and I know the weirdness is not all due to variations in tension. One sock I knitted 3 different times but still got the strange patterning. I'm now doing a pair in the new Blackwatch colorway and am getting spiraling color rather than streaks of color as I think was intended.

Glad to see you're feeling better! Another FO after 1 year probably is a great feeling too. I love the socks. One of these days when I become a "grown-up" knitter, I want to make socks too.

It's not you, it's the yarn. I made a pair from Lorna's Laces several years ago and the two skeins had different lengths of each color. So, first sock is mostly turquoise with a little blue and peach; second sock has even amounts of each color and looks more blue. The difference in the two skeins was obvious once I wound them into balls.

"Manly"? I'm sorry to hear that. I was really hoping these lovely socks would get me in touch with my feminine side.
