Bag Designs
While I have been spending most of my time packing and working, I have found some time for knitting. And what have I been knitting? New felted bags, of course! Here's a sneak peek at the two designs that are currently in the works:
This is a yet unnamed backpack design. This is my first attempt at the bag -- it usually takes a few attempts before I'm satisfied with a design. What do you think?
And here's a bit of the Heidi Tote. Perfect example of unexpected results. I knit up a smaller version and it turned out great, but when I translated it into the larger size things went a bit awry. I think I have a solution, but I need to work through the details and knit it up again.
Moving day is just over a week away, so these designs may not be finished up until late June or early July, but I'm excited to have two in process! Speaking of moving day, our closing (the second of three!!) is tomorrow. Wish us luck!
And finally I leave you with a picture (mostly for Bonne Marie's benefit). Remember when you were a kid and there were great prizes in the cereal box? Okay, maybe they weren't that great, but I'm sure my mom still had a heck of a time keeping the peace in a house with 4 kids when a new box was opened! Well, Cheerios has started to put prizes in the box again. Of course it's not like the old days when you had to dig through the cereal to find it. Now it's hermetically sealed and placed outside the interior cereal bag. But the prizes are much cooler than when I was a kid. Last month it was Matchbox cars (Maddie has six of them I think -- the girl *loves* her Cheerios). This month (due to the cross promotion gods -- lol!) it's Shrek 2 watches. Yep, watches! Here's the one she pulled out of the box today:

Thanks for the sneak preview of the bags. They look like fun!

Wait, I haven't knitted your last design yet, although its in the stash. They both look interesting. My biggest problem with felted bags is that they seem to be a bit too floppy for my everyday use. Which is probably a bit excessive, since it can include two cell phones (on call and personal), a massive wallet (why I always buy them, I don't know), meds, a checkbook, gum, books, and a zillion other things. Maybe I just need to learn how to line a bag.

Oh goody! I was just telling someone recently that I wanted to knit kiddo a backpack for school this year. Now I know where I will be getting the pattern. Good luck with moving.

Backpack looks good -- will be interested to know finished dimensions. And we'll be looking for some Cheerios this weekend!

The backpack looks great. Of course the true test of any bag is how it feels in use. Gee, I'd be happy to test drive it for you. :)

I think the backpack idea is TERRIFIC and I can't wait for the pattern, Julie. But, I agree that some yarns felt too floppy. Kureyon in particular, even though the colors are awesome. I love the feel of knitting with Lamb's Pride and it felts very well. I love that halo effect, but some don't. Cascade 220 felts very well, too, but for me isn't quite as fun during the knitting part. It is just a little too "plain" going through the fingers, maybe. Manos felts but weirdly! I have some Peace Fleece in my stash, but have never felted with it. Can't wait to see what you give us!!

I want to knit a felted backpack, so I'll be checking back for your finished pattern. I like it so far, especially the colors

UGH! I feel your pain. The movers are packing up my house as I type!
My SO is home dealing with the mess and I am, thankfully, at work blissfully unaware of the peril that awaits my homecomming this evening...

Love it! I just finished my first Booga (after months of glaring at it in contempt because I used 2 different kinds of yarn that didn't felt the same) and I can't wait to try another.

Did someone say backpack?? Oh the booga does it again with her extraordinary talent. Now I know what to get my friend Kat, she gifted me with your Madelaine pattern. The Heidi Tote hint is absolutely tantalizing.
I must have a Shrek watch. Shrek really rocks my world.

Oh yeah, we have a couple of those Shrek watches laying around this house too! LOL your bags look great, as usual. Can't wait to see the final products!

Wow, watches! They even put dvds in cereal boxes now too. I remember you'd have to send in like 6 upc barcodes before you could even get anything remotely cool.

The new backpack looks so cool. Can't wait to see the final.
I'm jealous of the Shrek watch, too. Since first seeing your post a while back, we've been on the quest for one. Four boxes later (and it's become hard to find the boxes that have them!), we've still not gotten a Shrek one - we're getting things like the 3 little pigs and Pinnochio! Still fun, but not nice, lime green, and Ogre-bearing!
