THe Guardian had a post on the Top 20 Geek Novels (Found via Slashdot.) And I see that I have read about half of them (The ones that I have colored purple):
1. The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- Douglas Adams
2. Nineteen Eighty-Four -- George Orwell (Read at least twice)
3. Brave New World -- Aldous Huxley
4. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? -- Philip Dick
5. Neuromancer -- William Gibson
6. Dune -- Frank Herbert
7. I, Robot -- Isaac Asimov
8. Foundation -- Isaac Asimov (Read the entire series twice)
9. The Colour of Magic -- Terry Pratchett
10. Microserfs -- Douglas Coupland
11. Snow Crash -- Neal Stephenson
12. Watchmen -- Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons
13. Cryptonomicon -- Neal Stephenson
14. Consider Phlebas -- Iain M Banks
15. Stranger in a Strange Land -- Robert Heinlein
16. The Man in the High Castle -- Philip K Dick
17. American Gods -- Neil Gaiman
18. The Diamond Age -- Neal Stephenson
19. The Illuminatus! Trilogy -- Robert Shea & Robert Anton Wilson
20. Trouble with Lichen - John Wyndham
So does this make me half geek? Or should I resolve myself to the fact that I am completely a geek :)

You haven't read the Hitchiker's Guide series? I highly recommend it. Then you could be over the 50% geek mark. :-)
So of that list, which are your favorites?

Wow, I get half also, but almost an entirely different half! I've read 1,2,3,5,6,7,11,12,15,17,18. Started Cryptonomicon but didn't make it through yet. I am surprised to see Neal Stephenson so heavily represented on this list. I'd say my favorites are Snow Crash, American Gods, and the Hitchhiker's radio series.

I suppose I'm more of a movie geek. I've only read 5 of those (she says, brazenly including "American Gods" which she's had out from the library for a month and has scarcely made it into the second chapter), and I haven't even heard of half of the rest.

Surprisingly, I've only read 6 of these. (Considering how much and how long I've loved fantasy and sci-fi . . . although this list seems to lean more towards hard-core sci-fi.)

You may want to also add to that list the Song of Fire and Ice trilogy by George RR Martin - Highly recommended!

Aw, what's a Geek, really, anyway?!
Geeks are the ones that have the most money and are really the smarter people.
Of course, I haven't read most of those, but still consider myself a geek! LOL!
Geekdom is a state of mind. OOOOHHHMMMMM!!!

Good jolly, miss molly!! I must be a nerd as I have read many of the listed books, and other books by the listed authors. My inlaws will be pleased when I tell them over Thanksgiving-just shows we have even LESS in common.

I, too, have read a somewhat different approximate half of that list: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 15, and 17, plus an unlisted book by Iain Banks (and lots of other books by the authors of the books on the list that I have read). (And I'm sure I've read the Foundation series at least three or four times, because I do things like that.)

Gee, I was much more of a reading geek before I took up knitting, but I loved The Watchmen. It's a comic book (okay graphic novel), but don't let that stop you.
I read it in an afternoon, and actually put down my knitting for awhile.
