Rug Hooking & Harry Potter

Rug_hooking

Where the heck have I been?  It seems like the summer is always a busy time even though both of my businesses slow down a bit.

And the heat, my god the heat! (Can anyone place that quote?)  I always seem to slow down once the really hot weather hits.  Lately Maddie and I have been taking early (for us) morning walks before it gets too hot.  Good exercise for both of us.

But I've also found some time for crafting.  I've been working on a new craft -- rug hooking.  I bought this kit last year at the Michigan Fiber Fest and haven't done a thing with it until last weekend.  I have no idea what I'm doing as I've never taken a rug hooking class and I don't have a book on the subject.  It seems to be going okay though.  I think I really need one of those rug hooking frames -- doing this with a little embroidery hoop is very difficult.

But mostly I've been reading -- I'm trying to re-read all the HP books before the new one comes out.  I've finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3) (finished last night).  I just started Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) but I don't have book 5 (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix)!  Must remember to order that today along with the new one -- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7).  (Book 6 -- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is waiting in the wings -- by book 6 I was hooked and had to purchase the hardcover as soon as it came out!)  Do you think I'll finish by July 21st?

I'm having to restrain myself on the Harry Potter Re-Read business. I'm starting each book on Saturday, one a week. So, I began on June 9th, and just finished #3 this weekend . . . but now have to wait until Saturday to start #4 . . . all part of the anticipation working up to July 21st. I really can't wait to see how this all works out!

Oooh, rug hooking. I did it for about three years, finished three rugs, and then got preggers and had a baby, and that was the end of that. The frame is a wonder, I can't hook without it, but it's lethal and I figured I'd abandon it for safety's sake and pick it up again when the kiddos are both in school. Do you have a cutter yet? Are you dying your own wool? Oh, I miss it! Have fun!

I think you'll be able to finish the books :) I started Memorial Day weekend and I'm not halfway through book 6. DH started after I finished the first book, and he is now on 4. I wonder how many people are trying to get them read by the time the new one comes out. Boy I'm glad I am... I forgot so much of what happens!

Oh definitely...they read so fast.

Of course you will finish...having read them all they go quickly. Plus they are too much fun to put down. I can't wait until the next one comes out.

Sure you will, I finished rereading them all in a week & a half, of course no house work got done.

I was just wondering if you were going to continue making stitch-cast podcasts.

I, too, am looking forward to the 21st and plan to read it all day long.
see you, g

That quote sounds like Blanche in STREET CAR NAMED DESIRE. Not positive. We listened to all the Harry Potter books on audio. Jim Dale, who does ALL the voices is amazing. He almost spoiled us for the movies.

Just finished two great books: THE ROAD and HEYDAY. Both terrific!

Wishing you a great summer. Frozen margaritas help. Just freeze Jose Cuervo margarita mix, (comes in a jug) that already has the tequila in it. Put it in a large tupperware container or plastic bucket. It will freeze to a slushy consistency. Instant "summer".

sounds like the quote from Biloxi Blues.
