I guess I wasn't clear enough in my last post, because lots of people have joined the ring since I posted. The ring is closed. Please check back for info on when it will re-open.
If you apply for membership when the ring is closed, you will be automatically deleted.
Well I'm dissapointed about this, only because I was patiently obeying the rules and waiting until I fulfilled the requirements.
It is sad that people like me (and others I am sure), obeying the rules, have to pay for other people not obeying the rules.
Shame on you all!!
Well, I will be patient and wait until the ring opens again.

I feel the same as Egeria ... I waited until today to submit the application because before this my blog was not one month old yet.
However, I do receive a site id in my email. Does this mean that I'm still in the queue and I can go ahead and put the link on my blog? Or my application will be void?

As it says in my post:

Wow... I guess I don't know what's going on IRL with you but is it really worth getting pissy about? Why aren't the 9 people who are "Ring Checkers" helping you?
I guess that yeah, it's disappointing to not be in the ring but I don't see why people would get worked up about it. There's a million knitting rings out there. Maybe I'm missing something as to why everyone and their mother is in this ring. 600+ people? That's crazy! Heck, I didn't even know there will that many knitting bloggers that were consistent about posting.
Julie - I hope things settle down for you. Stepping back was clearly something you needed to do.

Just a heads up, when you see the button for the Knit bloggers ring on other bloggers sites and click on that, all you get is the form to fill out for the ring. So if someone were to do that and not go to the ring homepage, they wouldn't have any idea that the ring is closed. I would like to say that I am disappointed also, and putting my money where my mouth is, I would volunteer to help out if needed. This seems like a really nice thing to do, and it's a shame one person is so overwhelmed.

Man. As a newbie knitter but a long-time blogger, I was *really* looking forward to joining the ring. What a bummer...

you know i tried to join when i just started out blogging, and got royally put in my place, and now i've been blogging for a year, and would love to be in the ring, and it's closed....you know, I'd love to share the great knits and design inspiration I get from living in Japan...i guess i'll keep checking in.
I think it's a great idea, but why make it so hard to get in?

A suggestion: when people decide to close down from blogging (as a number of knitbloggers have done), maybe they should de-link from the ring? And give their place to someone who wants it? I've occassionally run across inactive or even "dead" blogs (in one case, one that had reverted to the advertising page for an ISP) in the ring.
No, I'm not offering to be a ring-checker - too much on my plate already. But I think it's only fair that if people are going to quit the blogworld, that they notify someone and maybe let someone else into the ring.
Or am I being stupid about this (that seems to be the theme of the week for me so it wouldn't be anything new) and it would create a lot of extra work?

I would love to know of any "dead blogs" in the ring. The ring is checked on a regular basis and any sites that are not posting regulalry are removed. If you see one, you should email me so that it can be taken care of.
And it is not as easy as you think to just add one person when another leaves. It takes a lot of effort. First I have to contact the poeple whose blog isn't functioning for some reason. This usually results in several emails. It is extremely rare that people take the time to actually tell me that they aren't blogging anymore. I usually come across outdated blogs when I or my checkers check the ring.
Then, if I remove a blog and re-open the ring I deal with many blogs that don't meet my basic requirements. Usually they haven't been blogging long enough, or on a regular basis. Then there are many people who don't get the code on their site. This reaults in several emails.
Everything takes time. Every little problem that takes 15-20 minutes to resolve adds up. Remember, I have a life too. I have a daughter that I homeschool. I have a house and a family. I have two businesses that I run out of my home.
The work that I do on the ring eats up my free time. From time to time I need to close it because I have other things to deal with. That's just the way it has to be.
Besides, it's just a ring! No one is going to really suffer because they had to wait a few weeks or a month to get into the ring. If people are patient, they will eventually get into the ring as long as they meet the simlpe requirements.
