I think that you would be very interested in Mosaic of Thought by Ellin Oliver Keene and Susan Zimmermann. It's a book about how readers think or comprehend as they read. So often we equate comprehension with remembering rather than how books/stories that are read to us or that we read change the way we think or understand.

You can help kids enhance their comprehension by teaching thinking strategies. And this can start with very young children by talking about your own thinking as you read.

There are also so many beautiful picture books out there that you and your daughter would love. You might try going to the Cornerstone Initiative http://www.cornerstoneliteracy.org/childlib.html where they have picture books listed by what kind of thinking strategy they're good for. I think that it's just good to have a resource for good books. It's hard to keep up with all of the ones that are available now!

Anyway, good luck!
